That really helps me get everything sitting in a mix easier. They were not processed and needed a lot more work.But with the Penton, I can make a kick drum that fits my song a LOT faster. I did use the Doria samples back in the day and those were real nice. It's nice to have samples that bang hard from the start. What I like is that if you look at the kicks in an analyzer, you will see that he already processed them so they are EQ'd to really fit your mix off the bat. If you tighten everything up right, you can have body and sub or body/attack/sub layers and it sounds huge. The secret to the Penton library is how you set your filters. Record, produce, mix, master, and perform all from a single, intuitive application.

I personally found the most success layering the drums. Studio One 5 Professional Upgrade from Artist 3 or 4 or 5 for Quantum Users. You could just drop one of his kicks in a mix and be done if you really wanted. Vengeance drums ARE processed kicks off records and are not near the quality of the Penton. Considering most producers take processed and mastered kicks from other records, he basically gives you processed kicks that are much higher quality. Its worse than VEC-1 in this regard and VEC-1 processed up its own arse. All of the one shots are so heavily compressed I find them practically unusuable. The one shots are decent but theres not enough of them imho. Not multisampled so theres not much you can do with them. I've got some Loopmasters CD that I forget the name of and thats decent but theres a dearth of one shots in favour of cheesy minimoog bass patterns. Ironically, I find the free stuff like the Doru Malaia freebies, the Linndrum libraries and 909 sample packs (such as Deepsky's kick pack) are usually better than most commercial sample libraries I've used.
